As the wedding season kicks into full swing we grab 10 minutes with Susie Young, founder of Knot & Pop; wedding and events planners extraordinaire, to see what makes her, and the team at K&P a cut above the rest.
1. What did you want to be when you were little?
I went through a lot of the stereotypical career ambitions of a child into teenager – from pop star, to lawyer, to doctor, to advertising. I did Marketing at university but within 3 weeks switched ontoFashion Marketing that lead me into a 10 year career in Fashion PR & Events.
2. How did you get into Wedding Planning?
Having worked in Fashion PR & Events for over 10 years I was keen to transfer the skills I had amassed to something with greater meaning. I had long loved the Events side of my job in Fashion PR, creatingengaging scenes for guests to enjoy and realized that I would find greater fulfillment in Wedding Planning, working with couples to create the most memorable of days for them and their guests. Noticing a gap in the UK Wedding Planning market for a more modern minded approach to Weddings, I then launched Knot & Pop in 2013.
3. What makes Knot & Pop different?
I think part of what makes Knot & Pop different is the fact that my team and I have had a broad range of experience, through our careers to date, prior to entering the wedding world. With that we bring a fresh and new approach to the wonderful world of weddings. We best suit couples that are happy to do things differently, to break with wedding etiquette tohave their day, their way. We are for modern minded couples that are wanting to breathe creativity and individuality into their wedding. We put the pop into tying the knot!
4.Give us one brand you love and one you hate!
I love the Aesop brand – heavenly scents, a quiet confidence, stunning packaging and a simplicity that says luxury.
One I hate…now that would be telling. There are a lot of brands that are getting it wrong, but I hate to name and shame.
5. What’s your favourite app?
It has to be the one and only photo-sharing app, Instagram. Not just a place for inspiration, it’s also now a portal for Knot & Pop to do business, with both clients and supplier relations forged through Instagram.
6.Best secret London tip?
For a lovely design-led lifestyle store Triangle Store in Lower Clapton is a real find, mixing ceramics with locally handmade design items.
7. Diamonds and _________ (fill the gap)
It has to be champagne.
8.What’s the earliest you’ve been to bed this year and why?
Call time for an event at 4am, which is sometimes the way through the summer wedding season so you get used to it. Nothing a morning coffee doesn’t sort.
9.What advice would you give someone planning their wedding?
There is much to share.
From the practical with best order approach (get that venue found first!), to how to find those best-fit Suppliers, to dress quest recommendations, how to pin-point your theme and scheme.
But above all, do not stress or worry, and do not plan it alone if you are finding things over-whelming.
Share the To Dos with your partner, ask close friends and family for help and, if you’re able, consider getting the help of a wedding planner as our insights, intel and expertise will save you much time and stress.
10.What would your Nobel Prize be for?
All Things Considered…
As a planner and working in events you are always considering each and every scenario to be prepared and ready! That or Check-Lists.
